Inspired.

"We should use dance to explain all of our complex problems, imagine our politicians using dance to explain why we should invade a foreign country or bail out an investment bank" - John Bohannon

Have you seen this Ted Talk?
Watch it. Do it. I even figured out how to post it in my blog, to make it convenient for you.
So what if I told you this exact performance was taking place in Calgary? With dancers as a power point presentation, to a speech on political engagement? Saturday - John Dutton Theatre - 7:00pm.
(It includes two dance performances, hors d'heuvres and a cash bar)

I was approached by my boss (David Swann) to do something with the dance company I run (La Caravan Dance Theatre) because he's incredibly supportive of the arts and wanted to support La Caravan.
Seeing as there is an election coming up, what better way to get people to pay attention than combining the arts and politics?

But it seems that politics is a bad word in this city. Is it? Do you pay attention to what policies are being made for you in government? I'd confess that I didn't know who my MLA was before I took this job. And then I realized that knowing these things is an important aspect of being an engaged citizen, of your world, whatever that happens to be.

But this event could bring about momentum. Change the way at least a few people look at politics. Expose people to dance. Promote the idea of consciousness. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for.

Tickets are available here. And yes, they are $50. But if you're a little strapped for cash (like you're a student, or working as an artist) there are discounts available. Just ask... well you know. Me.

I've managed to secure a three minute excerpt!
I'll post the whole thing when I get it.
